Turn any camera into a bird-watching journal.

Wingwatch watches your garden camera, names every visitor, and sends you a weekly story of who came to the feeder. No new hardware. Built in the UK, tuned for UK species.

Part I · The tension

The existing options are good. Just not for you.

Most smart bird cameras sell you a £250 feeder-camera with a free-tier AI and monthly upgrades. They're decent products — if you want to start from scratch on their terms.

But if you already own a camera that could see your garden, you're stuck with three problems:

  • Hardware lock-in. Their AI only works with their camera.
  • US-trained models. Species lists that miss half of what visits a British garden.
  • Alert fatigue. Dozens of clips a day, often cut off mid-visit.

Wingwatch is the software-first bet: any RTSP camera, UK species, one weekly story instead.

Part II · The product

What you actually get.

UK-tuned species ID

Robin, Chaffinch, Goldcrest, Long-tailed Tit — not "maybe a bird." Trained on British gardens and the species you'll actually see in yours.

A weekly story, not a stream of pings

Every Monday, a short email: who visited this week, what was new, which species came back after a quiet spell. Built to be read, not swiped away.

A journal of your garden

Every visit archived and searchable by species. Star the good ones. Scroll back through a year of your feeder. Export everything, anytime.

Part III · The workflow

How it works.

1

Point a camera at your garden.

Any RTSP or ONVIF camera works — a £60 Reolink, your old GoPro, whatever already sees your feeder.

2

Wingwatch watches the stream.

Motion triggers a clip. AI tags the species. Nothing is sent if nothing visits — your garden stays quiet most days.

3

You read the journal every Monday.

A short email, a growing archive, and a place to star the best visits. Export to CSV or Darwin Core anytime you like.

Part IV · Fit

Who this is for.

Probably you, if…

  • You already own a camera pointed at a feeder, a bird bath, or a patch of garden.
  • You know a Robin from a Blackbird. Or you'd like to learn.
  • You'd rather own your setup than depend on someone else's service.
  • You care where your data lives.

Probably not, if…

  • You want plug-and-play — a feeder in a box, no setup, no fiddling with cameras.
  • You'd rather not configure streaming protocols or camera settings.
  • You're in North America. The species model isn't tuned for your garden — yet.
  • You expect a polished v1. This is early days, and it shows.
